On the afternoon of January 12, Chairman Yan Shengjun met with the President of the Republic of the Maldives, H.E. Mohamed Muizzu, who was on a state visit to China, at Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing. The two sides exchanged views on the cooperation between CNTY and the Maldives in the field of environmental protection and renewable energy, with broad consensus reached.

When introducing CNTY's businesses, Chairman Yan emphasized CNTY's active engagement in practicing the new development philosophy featuring innovative, coordinated, green, open and shared growth put forward by President Xi Jinping. Driven by the double-engine strategy of "environmental protection + new energy", CNTY is devoted to delivering the best environmental services and systematic clean energy solutions for the cause of environmental protection worldwide.

Chairman Yan further reviewed the long-established and in-depth friendly exchanges and business contacts between CNTY and the Maldives, building on our shared aspiration for environmental protection and sustainable development values. Currently, CNTY is actively engaged in constructing the national waste-to-energy (WtE) plant on the Thilafushi Island, which is progressing smoothly. Going forward, CNTY is ready to play an active role in green energy projects in the Maldives, aiming to help the nation respond to climate change in a more effective way. Building on the current mutually beneficial cooperation, CNTY looks forward to further establishing a long-term cooperation mechanism with the Maldives from the perspective of top-level planning, with expanded investment in Phase II of the Thilafushi Island Project and involvement in such renewable energy projects as solar power, wind power and green hydrogen. By aligning CNTY's advanced technologies and top-notch talents with the pace of economic and social development in the Maldives, CNTY aims to foster more local talents in the environment sector and facilitate the construction of a green Belt and Road between the two countries.

President Muizzu acknowledged CNTY as a good friend of the Maldives and expressed his pleasure to meet with Chairman Yan in Beijing. He highly affirmed CNTY's WtE project in the Maldives and commended CNTY's positive contribution to the local development and environmental protection. As His Excellency introduced, the Maldives is geographically favorable, rich in tourism resources, and economically resilient, with a favorable business environment and abundant investment opportunities. He welcomed CNTY to expand its solid waste treatment business to waste collection, recycling and more power generation businesses in the Maldives. Hopefully, the construction of Phase II of the Thilafushi Island Project starts as soon as possible, and CNTY further undertakes the solid waste treatment for the entire Maldives, so as to systematically address the waste treatment issue in the country.

President Muizzu indicated that he and the new government have ambitious plans for the green economy and the renewable energy sector in the next five years. CNTY is expected to be an even stronger partner of the Maldives, with active engagement in its renewable energy sector including wind and solar projects, thus to facilitate the fulfillment of the low-carbon and green development goals of the Maldives. President Muizzu also welcomed Chairman Yan to visit the Maldives and expressed expectations for more in-depth and win-win cooperation between the two sides.

Senior Maldivian officials, including Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer, Minister at the President's Office Adam Rameez, and Principal Secretary to the President on Corporate Development Mohamed Shahid, also attended the meeting.
